Rhinoplasty for Dorsal Hump Correction
Nose Reshaping Surgery for a Balanced Facial Profile
A 26-year-old architect from Hyderabad had always been self-conscious about her nose. The prominent bump on the bridge dominated her profile in every photograph. She avoided side-angle photos entirely. After years of considering her options, she consulted Dr. Harikiran Chekuri at Redefine Clinic. A carefully planned rhinoplasty addressed the dorsal hump while refining the tip, creating a nose that finally felt like hers.
PATIENT PROFILE
THE PROBLEM
She noticed it first in her school photos. That bump on the bridge of her nose that seemed to grow more prominent every year. By college, she had mastered the art of the three-quarter angle, always turning slightly toward the camera to minimize the profile view. She never let anyone photograph her from the side.
As an architect, she spent her days designing beautiful spaces. The irony was not lost on her. She could create perfect proportions in buildings but had to live with what she saw as an imbalance on her own face. The hump dominated her profile. When she smiled, the tip seemed to droop slightly, making it more noticeable.
She had thought about rhinoplasty for years but worried about looking unnatural or having a nose that did not match her face. She did not want a cookie-cutter result. After extensive research on nose reshaping surgery, she scheduled a consultation with Dr. Harikiran Chekuri to understand what was realistically achievable.
CONSULTATION & TREATMENT PLAN
WHAT WAS ASSESSED DURING THE CONSULTATION
A comprehensive facial and nasal analysis was performed:
- Facial proportions and symmetry evaluated
- Dorsal hump measured: approximately 4mm prominence
- Nasal tip assessment: mild ptosis, slightly bulbous
- Skin thickness evaluated: medium (ideal for showing refinements)
- Internal nasal examination: no septal deviation, normal airways
- Photographic analysis from multiple angles
- Computer imaging to visualize potential outcomes
- Patient goals discussed: natural result, balanced profile, refined tip
SURGICAL PLAN
- Closed rhinoplasty approach (all incisions inside the nose)
- Dorsal hump reduction using the precision rasping technique
- Lateral osteotomies to narrow the nasal bridge after hump removal
- Tip refinement with cartilage reshaping
- Slight tip rotation to correct drooping
- Conservative approach to maintain ethnic harmony and natural appearance
PRE-OPERATIVE PHOTOS
Baseline photographs documented the dorsal hump, tip shape, and overall nasal proportions. Images were captured from frontal, lateral, oblique, and basal views under standardized lighting.
PROCEDURE DETAILS
- Surgery performed under general anesthesia
- Closed rhinoplasty approach – incisions made inside the nostrils
- Nasal skin carefully elevated from the underlying cartilage and bone
- Dorsal hump reduced using precision rasp – 4mm of bone and cartilage removed
- Lateral osteotomies performed to close the open roof and narrow the bridge
- Lower lateral cartilages reshaped to refine the tip
- Tip rotated slightly upward using suture techniques
- Internal splints placed to support the septum
- External nasal splint and tape applied for support
PROCEDURE FACTS
POST-OPERATIVE RESULTS
The splint came off at one week. Even with the swelling, the hump was gone. The profile that had bothered her for years was already transformed. By week four, most of the visible swelling had subsided, and she could see the refined shape emerging. At six months, the tip had settled beautifully. The nose looked natural, like it had always belonged on her face. By one year, the final result was complete. A smooth profile, a refined tip with a slight upturn, and perfect harmony with her other features.

| Google Review ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 5.0 Verified Patient (Name withheld for privacy) “I spent years avoiding profile photos. Always turning my face, always conscious of that bump. The hardest part was the waiting after surgery. The swelling takes time to go down. But when it did, I could not believe it was my nose. It looks like it was always supposed to look this way. Natural, balanced, like it fits my face. My colleagues have not even realized I had surgery. They just say I look different, happier. And I am. I finally take photos from any angle without thinking twice.” Profile: Female · 26 years · Architect · Hyderabad Procedure: Rhinoplasty · Redefine, Gachibowli · November 2025 Doctor: Dr. Harikiran Chekuri · Redefine |
