Lip Filler for a Thin Upper Lip
A patient presented at Dr. Harikiran Chekuri‘s clinic at Redefine Clinic with a longstanding concern about her thin upper lip. Even at rest, the upper lip appeared almost flat, creating a visible imbalance with her fuller lower lip. After a thorough facial assessment, 0.8 ml of hyaluronic acid dermal filler was injected into the upper lip in a 10-minute in-clinic procedure. The result was immediate, natural, and required no downtime.
PATIENT PROFILE
THE PROBLEM
She had never been happy with her upper lip. In photographs, it almost disappeared narrow and flat against a lower lip that carried all the fullness. The imbalance made her reluctant to smile widely, and she had spent years over-lining with lip liner trying to compensate.
She had looked into permanent options but was not ready for anything surgical. After researching dermal fillers in Hyderabad, she booked a consultation. A thorough assessment was carried out before any treatment was recommended.
CONSULTATION & TREATMENT PLAN
What Was Assessed During the Consultation
- Facial proportion analysis: upper-to-lower lip ratio evaluated
- Vermilion border clarity and cupid’s bow definition assessed
- Patient’s goal confirmed: natural enhancement, not dramatic augmentation
- Medical history reviewed with no contraindications identified
- No prior lip filler or permanent lip augmentation procedures
- Allergy history confirmed hyaluronic acid filler deemed appropriate
Why 0.8 ml Was Chosen
For first-time patients with a naturally thin upper lip, a conservative volume between 0.5 ml and 1 ml delivers meaningful results without the risk of overfilling. 0.8 ml was selected to add projection along the body of the upper lip, sharpen the cupid’s bow, and create better symmetry with the lower lip. The goal was improvement that looked like the patient’s own lip on a good day, not a different lip entirely.

PROCEDURE DETAILS
The procedure was performed at Redefine Clinic. A topical numbing cream was applied 15 minutes before the injection. The filler was placed using a fine needle along the vermilion border and central body of the upper lip. The entire injection was complete in approximately 10 minutes with no sedation or recovery time required.
POST-PROCEDURE RESULTS
The improvement was visible immediately. The upper lip looked fuller and more defined the moment the filler was placed. There was very mild swelling that resolved within 24 hours. By day three, the lip had settled into its final shape a noticeably fuller upper lip with a cleaner cupid’s bow and a natural balance with the lower lip.
At the two-week review, no touch-up was required. The symmetry and volume were considered optimal by both the patient and our plastic surgery team.
PATIENT FEEDBACK
Feedback recorded at the 2-week follow-up visit at Redefine Clinic, Hyderabad.
"I was always embarrassed about how thin my upper lip looked in photos. I had tried lip liner tricks for years but nothing actually changed the shape. The filler took less than 10 minutes and when I looked in the mirror it was already different: fuller, more defined, exactly what I wanted. I was worried it would look fake but it looked completely natural. My friends thought I just changed my makeup routine. I can finally smile without thinking about my lips."
