Peptide Therapy for Acne Scar Reduction

Regenerative Peptides and Microneedling for Post-Acne Scarring

A 28-year-old software engineer from Hyderabad struggled with acne scars that had affected his confidence since his teenage years. He had tried chemical peels and laser treatments with limited improvement. Dr. Harikiran Chekuri at Redefine Clinic recommended a combination of regenerative peptides with microneedling to stimulate collagen remodeling in the scarred tissue. After five sessions over four months, his boxcar and rolling scars showed significant improvement, and his skin texture became noticeably smoother.

THE PROBLEM

The acne itself had cleared up years ago, but the scars stayed. Deep pits on both cheeks. Uneven texture across his jawline. Under certain lighting, it looked like the surface of the moon. He hated video calls at work because his webcam seemed to highlight every crater.

He had already tried a few things. Chemical peels helped a little with the texture but did nothing for the deeper scars. Laser treatment was expensive and the downtime was brutal. He had to take a week off work each time, and even then, the redness took forever to fade. The results were okay but not worth the hassle. He wanted something that actually worked on the scars without turning his face red for days.

A colleague at work had similar scars and mentioned peptide therapy. The idea of using the body’s own healing signals to rebuild the scarred tissue made sense. He did some research and booked a consultation with Dr. Harikiran Chekuri.

CONSULTATION & TREATMENT PLAN

WHAT WAS ASSESSED DURING THE CONSULTATION

A detailed scar assessment was performed:

  • Scar types identified: predominantly boxcar and rolling scars
  • Scar depth measured using cross-sectional lighting
  • Distribution mapped: bilateral cheeks and jawline
  • Skin type and oiliness assessed for treatment planning
  • Previous treatment response reviewed
  • Patient goals discussed: smoother texture, reduced scar depth, minimal downtime

WHY PEPTIDE THERAPY WITH MICRONEEDLING WAS CHOSEN

  • Peptides stimulate collagen remodeling in scarred tissue
  • Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries that trigger healing
  • Combined approach is more effective than either treatment alone
  • Safer for Indian skin types with lower risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
  • Shorter downtime compared to ablative laser treatments
  • Gradual improvement looks natural, not sudden

PRE-TREATMENT PHOTOS

Baseline photographs documented the scar distribution, depth, and overall skin texture. Images were taken under standardized and cross-sectional lighting to accurately capture scar severity.

PROCEDURE DETAILS

Face cleansed and prepped with antiseptic solution

  • Topical numbing cream applied for 30 minutes (higher concentration for scar tissue)
  • Customized peptide cocktail prepared (EGF, FGF, TGF-beta, copper peptides)
  • Medical-grade microneedling performed at 1.5-2.0mm depth on scarred areas
  • Peptide solution applied during microneedling for enhanced penetration
  • Additional peptide serum massaged into skin post-procedure
  • LED red light therapy applied to reduce inflammation and boost healing
  • Soothing mask and sunscreen applied before discharge

PROCEDURE FACTS

Session Duration
60 minutes per session (including numbing)
Anesthesia
Topical numbing cream (high concentration)
Needle Depth
1.5 to 2.0mm (deeper for scar tissue)
Peptides Used
EGF, FGF, TGF-beta, GHK-Cu (Copper peptide), Hyaluronic acid
Areas Treated
Bilateral cheeks and jawline (scarred areas only)
Complications
None (redness and mild swelling for 2-3 days is expected)
Downtime
2-3 days of redness, can resume work next day with makeup

POST-TREATMENT RESULTS

After completing five sessions over four months, the improvement was clear. The boxcar scars on his cheeks were shallower. The rolling scars had smoothed out significantly. Under the same lighting that used to bother him, his skin looked much more even. The change was gradual, which meant no one at work suspected he had any treatment done. His confidence in video calls improved noticeably.

“I have had these scars since I was 18. Tried peels, tried laser. Nothing really worked that well. This treatment was different. The downtime was much less than laser. Just some redness for a couple of days. After the third session, I could see the difference. The pits are not as deep now. My skin looks more normal. I finally feel okay taking photos without filters. Should have done this years ago.”
